Muscimol (Agarin) is a psychoactive isoxazole that is a selective neurotransmitter GABA agonist. Muscimol binds GABAA at high and low affinity sites (Kd 10 and 270 nM, respectively), stimulates chloride efflux, and EC50 values of 200 nM. Muscimol can cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and has a memory-destroying effect.
